Exam advice for Year 10s – Polina G.

Exams for Year 10 and Year 12 students were held at RHS a few weeks ago week. For some, it was a stressful week, while for others it was not too difficult. However, we are all glad it is over.

Some essential advice is to revise not just for a long time, but more productively. This could include using flashcards or quizzes that cover a mix of topics from a subject. That is what I find helpful for myself. However, the most important thing is to understand your own strengths and knowledge, because when you enter the quiet exam hall, your performance depends mainly on what you know. Therefore, it is important to feel confident.

It is easy to forget things under pressure; however, this is why we have mock exams—to get used to the experience and become better prepared.

Usually, students—including myself—feel stressed both about taking exams and receiving the results. However, keep in mind that there is still a year to prepare for the actual external exams. Teachers often emphasise how useful it is to review past topics, and you may not realise this until you try it. It is important to experiment with different revision and exam techniques before you take the exam.

Even if your scores this year are not as good as you expected, keep pushing yourself and do not let your motivation drop, as this can have a strong impact on your confidence in exams.
