Turning the Page – Mr Newton, Head Of Chemistry
As his RHS chapter comes to a close, Mr Newton turns the page, with a new adventure to embark on.
With another school year coming to a close we pause to recognise staff who will sadly not be returning, but instead moving onto new chapters in their adventures. This Bubble feature will provide some insight into staff departing whilst celebrating their hard work, commitment and dedication which will forever leave a lasting impact on our RHS community. This edition features a farewell for Mr Newton who’s been at RHS for just under 4 years. Prior to working at RHS he was second in Charge of Science at Paxman Academy – a state school in Colchester. “A big change moving from the state sector to the independent sector, but I’m glad I made the move.”
Read on to find out more about Mr Newton’s RHS journey.
Mr Newton’s favourite RHS memories:
- One of his favourite memories is actually from his first year at RHS – his first RHS Christmas Dinner. Coming from an incredibly different school into a community which celebrates the end of term together with a meal, the band playing in the background, everybody laughing and happy, “was really something special”. I have to agree with Mr Newton, it’s the celebrations of heritage and our community which really make RHS unique. In agreement Mr Newton says “its been the sense of community here that has made me enjoy my time so much.”
An insight into Mr Newton’s next adventure:
- Mr Newton is off to become the Head of Science and STEM at The Leys School, Cambridge. An incredibly exciting opportunity for him, representing another step up in his career. Mr Newton recognises the step up in his career as “something I wouldn’t have been able to achieve had it not been for my experiences as Head of Chemistry here at RHS.” He’s also looking forward to living in Cambridge, and getting accustomed to city life!
What do you hope or think you will be most remembered for?
“Chemistry has been a passion of mine for my entire adult life so, despite some of my more boring lessons (sorry!), I would hope that I’d be remembered for the occasional good lesson here and there. I’ve also been an avid supporter of the CCF so would hope I’d be remembered positively there as well!”
Mr Newton’s time at RHS has clearly been an adventure, one to never forget. As he moves on, he simply turns the page into a new chapter in his journey, whilst his time at RHS comes to a close, the memories he leaves behind will remain a part of many pupils’ stories, alongside our RHS story. We all wish him every success as he discovers what lies ahead, continuing to turn countless pages.
“It has been the sense of community here that has made me enjoy my time so much.” – Mr Newton, Head Of Chemistry & Junior Science, CCF Contingent Commander.
