Prince Harry: off the market – Ellie Hewes
It would be hard to miss the fact that Prince Harry is no longer up for grabs. For those hopeful of becoming a princess, you will just have to wait for toddler Prince George (better chance of becoming Queen that way too). That’s right: Prince Harry is no longer on the market and is no longer living his bachelor lifestyle, embarking on a new part of his life with American girlfriend, Meghan Markle.
From singers like Ellie Goulding to Celebrity Love Island star Camilla Thurlow, many have tried to win his heart and become that one step closer to being Mrs Prince Harry, who is fifth in line to the throne.
The couple have been together for just over a year and a half. They first met in Canada in his Invictus Games for disabled servicemen. They were soon dating. However, Prince Harry hadn’t dated anybody seriously for 7 years. One of his friends said that “this was the happiest he has ever been” (the dating bit, not the barren spell).
The engagement story apparently goes like this: they were having a cosy night in in their cottage. They were trying (trying? – ed.) to roast a chicken and Prince Harry got down on one knee and proposed, but before he could even finish his sentence, she was already saying ” can I? Can I?” (presumably not a reference to stuffing the chicken). They soon hugged and, overwhelmed, Markle had forgotten all about the ring! He soon gave her the ring, which all honest taxpayers had a hand in, designed himself and containing some of the diamonds of Princess Diana to show that she is still with them through this new part of their lives together.
Press conferences and the public always being by their side, it seems is going to be a completely new life for Markle; who other girls looking to win the Prince’s heart, would’ve thought was just another one of “Harry’s girlfriends”. However, this wasn’t the case. Even though Markle had the life of an actress as one of the main characters in the television programme “Suits” and is known for campaigning her opinions in the UN, she will no longer be able to do this now she is a part of the royal family. Racist comments in the media have proved the first challenge that the couple have had to come across with the nation. Prince Harry did make a speech at how disgusted he was at the comments to the nation. I say, good on you, Harry!
However, the real question is: is Kate jealous that Markle may be the new favourite of the two brothers’ wives?
Another big question is: is Donald Trump going to be invited? Over past years, Markle has made comments about the American president. Is this why they chose such a small Chapel of St George – to have an excuse not to invite him? Perhaps. We will have to wait and see!
Following the television programmes of Diana and her life, it became clear the two brothers had had an extremely hard time. It is nice to see that Harry is settling down with somebody who will always be with him and he is happy and in a good place.
