Boys’ Hockey Sports Report (Lent Week 5) – Mr Battman

The boys have made a solid start to their hockey season, playing thirty five games in the opening four weeks and coming out on top in 43% of them.

The juniors have had three block fixtures so far. Both the Junior Firsts and Seconds came out victorious against South Lee; with Noah Arulampalam scoring 5 goals for the Junior Seconds in the process. Against Woodbridge, the Junior Thirds and Fourths got their first games (and wins) of the season with fine performances coming from Callum Corbold and Gyr Balmer respectively. Last week, the Junior Fifths team stepped onto the pitch for the first time this year and managed to defeat New Hall 5-1, with Alex Cantelo being their stand out player.

The senior teams lost their block against Woodbridge to the weather, but the Second Eleven did manage to beat them midweek thanks to two goals from Matt Saxby. A week later both the Under 15s and Under 14s B-teams claimed great victories over local rival, Ipswich School. This weekend saw four teams compete in a triangular with Framlingham and Culford. The Under 15s A-team defeated Culford 2-0 with Hamish Comonte keeping things tight at the back. The Second Eleven beat Framlingham with Matt Saxby adding another goal to his collection for the season. The First Eleven also got their just rewards for some fine performances with a great 1-0 victory over Culford, as Ollie Leggett got the winner in a great team performance.

Both the Under 14s A-team and Junior Firsts have also competed in their county cups, putting in some valiant performances, despite neither side progressing to the next round.

This weekend sees the school put out fifteen teams against Gresham’s, in what will be the busiest weekend of the season. Good luck to all those who will be involved.
