The Kop without Klopp- Phoebe G
What do N’Golo Kante, Kevin De Bruyne and Jürgen Klopp all have in common?
The answer’s pretty simple, if you ask me.
No matter how much you may hate the club that they play/manage for, you just can’t hate them.
For me, an avid Liverpool supporter, liking Klopp was pretty easy. But for some, they choose to hide behind their own ignorance and fear that as a Man City supporter, they secretly adore him. If you don’t, you’re just lying to yourself. Or maybe you’re just happy that Pep can ‘sleep better’ at night… I mean, how can you not love him? The guy has a Firmino-esque smile that blinds you, confuses the word ‘fog’ with a word that I can’t put on the bubble, and an even better personality and football awareness. So, naturally, when I found out that he was resigning from Liverpool in the middle of Geo Period 2, I was quite devastated, to say the least. I rushed to tell Mr Roe the news and we both shared a moment of utter disbelief.
Since joining Liverpool in 2015, Klopp has achieved numerous accolades, including the FA cup, Carabao Cup, Champions League and the Premier League in the 2019/20 season, ending a 30-year long wait. It’s safe to say that he has left a lasting legacy and can even be considered as one of the best Liverpool managers to ever grace the pitch. Football achievements aside, Klopp has a deep connection with Liverpool and the club’s fans. He has reached out to various different fans of the club to extend his gratitude for their support, which is not often seen among many managers; showing his true selflessness and philanthropic nature. Since he announced his resignation, the Liverpool fans all united to sing YNWA in honour of his departure, alongside a standing ovation during the Norwich game on Sunday, where many have claimed that he shed a tear.
From his iconic celebration at the end of a successful game, to his impassioned outbursts at the on-field match officials for, quite frankly, outrageous, refereeing at times and to his amazing signings (like Darwizzy) I’m sure that many people will join me to mourn the loss of an amazing manager, and an even better human being. Thank you, Jürgen, you will be missed.
That started to sound a bit like a eulogy…
