Rules to live by: embracing the modern world – Amelia G
Our society is changing all the time and developing in different ways, which can be hard to keep up with. It important for us to adapt to this change since it is inevitably going to happen so we might as well be prepared. While it is nice to reminisce, we have to make sure we aren’t holding ourselves back by only focusing on the past.
With that being said, I believe it is still important to preserve your individuality and not allow yourself to be completely moulded by your environment. After all if we were all influenced in the same way we would become the same person, making it difficult to interact with other people in society. As Isabel explains in her article, we need to remember our own self worth and learn to value it without feeling the need to change to be like everyone else (a sheep.)
Embracing the modern world doesn’t mean buying the newest iPhone, which is basically the same as all the others, or going for Apple’s new ‘Vision Pro’ VR headset (although they do have a partnership with Disney…) Embracing modernity means adapting as the world does, while staying grounded to reality, not escaping to alternative realities through technology. However this may become something that we adapt to and our attitude to this could change completely, we can’t really know until it happens.
It is hard to know how to be adaptive, especially when you can’t predict how our world will develop, but here are the Bubble’s top tips:
- don’t deny the change going on around you – it is better to accept change and move with it, than becoming stuck in old habits
- listen to different opinions – you will broaden your mindset if you can learn from others instead of ignoring them
- don’t feel pressured – you may not like the change that is happening and that is ok, it is good to maintain a sense of individuality
- recognise the good and bad change – if we can learn from change while it is happening we can stay grounded and realistic
- and finally, in the wise words of Michael Scott: “adapt, react, redapt, apt”. It’s as simple as that
