“Friends” the Marmite TV show – Savannah Collis

So no one told you life was gonna be this way… *”Friends” fans you know what to do*

From the well known theme tune, to iconic lines, “how you doing?”. You either LOVE “Friends” or HATE it, I am yet to find any middle ground on this. “Friends” is the most popular TV show to exist probably to this day, nope ‘Squid Game’ hasn’t overtaken it. However, it is probably the most controversial too as some people; people I would not associate myself with, can’t stand the show. Whats this, people dont like “Friends”? “I KNOW!”

So for those of you living under a rock, or born in 2006 or later, what’s “Friends” about? Clue is in the title really, a group of 6 friends living in New York City, living their chaotic, funny and wholesome lives. Starring Jenifer Anniston, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc, Courtney Cox and Matthew Perry, “Friends” first aired in 1994, and like that a hit show was born.

What is to love about “Friends” then?:

“Friends is a great show to just numb your brain after a long day, mainly because Joey may be my spirit animal and I thoroughly enjoy Chandler’s sarcasm. I mean ‘Could it be any funnier?’. If you’re a sporty person like me (I’m obviously referring to binging not athletics), you definitely could complete this marathon. Grab your Joey special (2 pizzas) and some of Phoebe’s grans cookies, probably avoid Rachel’s meat trifle though, and watch Friends tonight! – J.Skingle”

“Friends is really easy comedy, you can watch any episode and still enjoy it. You end up relating to a character or multiple characters and will start likening your friends (pardon the pun) and family to characters too. We all know a super neat control freak, they’re such a Monica, or I bet you can think of that away with the fairies hippy you know, a total Phoebe. Friends will make you laugh, it will make you cry and say “OH MY GOD!”. It is just a really nice bit of escapism. A quote from the show that is really special to me and really resonates with me is… “Joey doesn’t share food!”. My favourite character is… did you really think I could choose just one? My favourite episode is ‘The One with the Unagi”.” – S.Collis

Vannah doesn’t like ‘Friends’ THAT much…

“I like friends because it makes me laugh and I enjoy watching how the 6 of them have a great relationship and they do everything together. Favourite character has to be chandler as he always makes you laugh with his quick jokes. Favourite quote is ‘this is all a moo point’ – Joey. – C.Allison”

Why is “Friends” so bad?:

(It’s not but for the interest of a balanced argument only) – S.Collis

“Friends is bad because the jokes aren’t actually funny in my opinion. The laughter from the audience during the show is also rather annoying. The actors are irritating because they over-act and try too hard. Every episode seems the same and quite repetitive, and it’s incredibly boring. It’s 6 friends in Manhattan, we get it. – J.Hawthorn”

What’s not funny about this?

“I don’t really like Friends because I think it’s very overhyped. It’s not terrible but not good enough for the fuss that’s made about it. It’s rather overrated in my opinion. It’s just everywhere and that’s kind of annoying. They also drag things out, like the Ross and Rachel, will they/wont they deal so stupid and they were so on a break.” – Anonymous

If you didnt already know, a few months ago there was a “Friends” reunion, hosted by James Corden. Funny and emotional, worth a watch and great for all “Friends” fans. If you haven’t watched “Friends”, I would highly recommend it, it is a show I absolutely love and would rate it 100/10.
