Blake – Holly C
Blake house, an amazing hub for happiness and joy for the new year 7’s starting their RHS experience. Both a boarding and day house, Blake has become a lovely place, welcome to everyone. Many students here at RHS haven’t experienced Blake so I thought it would be the perfect chance to get to truly know the house.
Mornings in Blake, as a boarding house, start at 7:30 when everyone heads to breakfast. Meanwhile, the Turners are checking emails and getting ready for day pupils to arrive for morning announcements.
Lunchtimes are always fun especially on Friday’s where the annual mugging takes place. Peers nominate each other for someone who has gone out of their way to help another person. Then they receive a mug to fill with free tuck!
Afterschool, Prefects arrive in Blake, joining in on football, games and when divisions arrive, shoe polishing. Students get time to chat to their house parents about their day and check in.
To learn as much as possible about Blake I went and interviewed the new Blake housemaster, Mr Turner.
What is the most used game in Blake?
“Real split with what people play with, changes quite a lot.”
What is favourite item from the Blake tuck?
“Dairy Caramel Bar.”
What is your favourite thing about starting in Blake?
“Forming a relationship were everyone feels settled and welcomed, having the desire to want to help and support students.”
What is your favourite time in the day?
For the day pupils it’s the end of the day so when they get their phones I am able to chat to them/check on them. For the boarders it when they are having a activity or at the weekend, were they get to relax.”
