London Marathon – Davina O

Just last weekend a huge event occurred in London. The London Marathon 2026 took place on Sunday 26th April. All runners started at Greenwich Park (in the southeast of London) and finished at The Mall, right next to Buckingham Palace.

A Kenyan man, Sebastian Sawe stormed across the London Marathon finishing line in 1:59:30, just short of two hours. The 31-year-old wiped 65 seconds off the previous world record, set off by Kelvin Kiptum in 2023. Surprisingly, second place also broke the 2-hour record on a marathon debut. From Ethiopia, Yomif Kejelcha clocked a 1:59:41. On the woman’s front, Tigst Assefa from Ethiopia dominated and set a new, woman’s only world record of 2:15:41 – defending her title.

26.2 miles is a long distance – it takes a lot of endurance and will power to complete that distance. However, it was not just Sebastian Sawe that put the effort in, it was also the shoes on his feet. After Sebastian crossed the line, he held up his shoe to the camera. It was the ‘Adidas Adizero Addidos Pro Evo 3’. The sole of the shoe had written on it – ‘1:59:30 WR Sub 2’. You must be wondering what is so special about the shoe? Some say that it helped Sawe run under 2 hours, but others not so sure. The secret about the shoe is that it weighs 93 grams (which is lighter than a bar of soap!) and it has a stiff carbon plate inside. This allowed Sebastain to have maximum cushioning and energy across every stride.

Let’s hear about Mr Clare’s Marathon Experiences.

Mr Clare –

Although he ran under someone else’s name, he still ran exe and completed one of the most challenging races.

And if anyone is interested, from ages 4 to 17, you can enter in the Mini Marathon, which is only 2.6 kilometres – much shorter than our usual distance!

“Why was the mini marathon so popular with parents?” It was the only race where the kids actually finished ahead of schedule

Editor’s note: Mr Chandler also completed the Manchester marathon two weekends ago, coming in almost 10 minutes under the 3 hour mark! Phenomenal.
