F1 Driver Drama – Nellie N
So what’s the latest in F1? Does it own up to the title of ‘Pinnacle Of Motorsports’ or (more likely), ‘Pinnacle Of Drama’? With the absolute insanity unravelling despite only being in mid-season, let’s see what has happened amidst the confusion and what lurks around the circuit corner…
Logan Sargeant
Sargeant, being the only American driver on the grid, faced a humiliation when after one too many crashes, was completely kicked off of the Williams team. Not a kind decision giving that the season has not even finished, yet very unsurprising from the ‘apologetic’ James Vowles (team principal). After this very controversial decision of Sargeant’s fire, we are now introduced to Franco Colapinto who has replaced him. Colapinto is an Argentinian driver who, like Sargeant, is an unexperienced driver with only 22 races to his resume in F2. However, he is performing at a high standard with qualifying in Q3 in a track he has never raced in before and scoring more points in one weekend than Sargeant has in his entire F1 career.. As for Logan, maybe a career change to US politics?..

Drivers’ Lineup 2025
With silly season unravelling faster than Logan Sargeant’s career, let’s find some clarity in what has ACTUALLY be confirmed and is not just the various interesting rumours like the return of legend Sebastian Vettel (I can only hope).
Let’s break it down:
Red Bull- Max Verstappen, Sergio Perez
Ferrari- Charles Leclerc, Lewis Hamilton
Mclaren- Lando Norris, Oscar Piastri
Mercedes- George Russell, Andrea Kimi Antonelli
Aston Martin- Fernando Alonso, Lance Stroll
RB- Yuki Tsunoda, ?
Haas- Esteban Ocon, Ollie Bearman
Alpine- Pierre Gasly, Jack Doohan
Williams- Alex Albon, Carlos Sainz
Kick Sauber- Nico Hulkenburg, ?
As you may have noticed, some positions have yet to be decided accompanied with the fact that a few drivers are still subject to move. The names in red are previous drivers that have switched teams and those in blue are new recruited rookies. The most shocking move of the season that will be a topic of conversation for a very long time, is the shift of Hamilton to Ferrari and Sainz to Williams. This proves to be very significant as Hamilton is aiming for his 8th world championship with Ferrari, which begs the question, is that possible? We’ll only have to wait in suspense for the next season. All I can say is it certainly is not a happy time for fans of Carlos Sainz. However, Williams are aiming for top spot with recent aerodynamic upgrades which will (hopefully) be somewhat of a light at the end of a tunnel…
As for Daniel Ricciardo fans (myself included) I can only say that we are absolutely devastated that he has left RB so close to the end of the season and his future remains very much unknown as Liam Lawson reclaims the seat. He did however, take the point for fastest lap in his last race (potentially ever with f1) which is contribution to the sister team Red Bull and he says that if Verstappen receives the World Championship title again, it will be a ‘Christmas present’ to Ricciardo as his point may genuinely be the decider between Lando Norris and Max Verstappen…

Rapid Racing RecapThe Azerbaijan Grand Prix had me genuinely on the edge of my sofa. There was an extreme 4-way battle for the top positions; Oscar Piastri, Carlos Sainz, Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez all fighting for top spots. Piastri came out victorious, Leclerc in 2nd and Russell in 3rd with a huge collision between Sainz and Perez on the penultimate lap leading to a yellow flag race finish. As for the Singapore grand prix, this was as spectacular as always being the first ever race in Singapore to not have a yellow flag occurrence. Norris came out victorious with Verstappen then Piastri, proving a successful day for McLaren and begging the question, does Lando Norris really have the opportunity to win the Formula One World Championship?
Adrian Newey
I must admit this was music to my ears as an avid Fernando Alonso fan when Adrian Newey announced that he will be joining the Aston Martin F1 team. Newey is a British Formula One engineer and was the chief technical officer of the Red Bull Racing team. He has worked in Formula One and Indycar as a race engineer, aerodynamicist, designer and technical director. He has also worked with multiple title-winning teams including Mclaren and Williams. Due to the fact that he is considered as one of the greatest engineers in motorsports history, I am overjoyed and extremely hopeful for the future of Aston Martin and what Newey’s contribution can bring to Alonso’s success.
