Staff Rant #1 – Mrs Routledge
In the first of a new series, we invited Mrs Routledge to compose a ‘Staff Rant’: a list of ten things which particularly annoy her. Interestingly, it appears she isn’t a fan of the internet’s most famous language tool!
—————————————————————————————
- Poor grammar on social media (your so right, but its there problem…)
- Incorrect use of loose vs. lose and should of instead of should have
- Pupils starting emails with “Dear Mrs,” without adding “Routledge”. “Miss” is fine, but just “Mrs” is annoying.
- Pupils calling me “Mr Routledge” on emails
- Phones auto-correcting my name to Janice…
- Bullying and nastiness – in any form
- Rudeness
- Lying – especially about prep!
“Did you use Google Translate?”
“No miss”
“Are you sure, because you spelt “X” wrong in English so it moved it over…?”
*Pupil is silent and looks guilty* “I might have used it for one or two words…”
- Online translators/Google Translate
10. The amount of time I spend telling pupils NOT TO USE GOOGLE TRANSLATE!
