GCSE options: what to choose? – Polina G.

For Year 9 students, there is a difficult choice ahead of them which will impact their future for the next two years.

The first option might be science, where you choose between Triple Science and Combined Science. Even if you aren’t particularly strong in science, if you enjoy it or simply don’t want to choose additional subjects, it is worth considering.

Secondly, there are languages. Students who speak another language may benefit from choosing one, as these courses are often designed for non-native speakers. This can be particularly advantageous if you are an international student in England.

Among the other options, you can choose creative subjects such as Art or Design and Technology if they interest you. Alternatively, you may prefer essay-based subjects like History, Geography, or Business. All options should be chosen based on your own interests, experiences, and strengths.

Choices should be made with the understanding that there will be exams at the end of the course, so it is important to enjoy or be interested in what you study.
