Brits Fashion Review – Mia P
The 46th edition of the annual BRIT awards streamed last Saturday 28th February, notably the first time the ceremony has moved out of London and instead to the Co-op Live arena in Manchester. This year we saw Jack Whitehall return once more to host the awards for the sixth time and a history making performance as the first ever K-pop song won a Brit and Rose and Bruno Mars won International Song of the Year for “Apt”. But you and I both know this isn’t why you clicked on the article. So today I (as the least qualified fashion authority imaginable) will be taking on rating some celebrity outfits. (DISCLAIMER: all of these opinions are only reflective of the outfits seen and not of the celebrities themselves – please do not come for me)
Olivia Dean

It only seems right to start with Olivia Dean herself after her domination of Saturday night, winning 4 awards including Artist of the Year, Pop Act, Song of the Year (Rein Me In) and Album of the Year. She featured 3 outfits this night starting with her dress from Loewe which some people may argue is basic for an awards show but honestly I have no complaints about it, I do quite like the simplicity of the silhouette. Her second outfit of the night from Burberry I equally have no complaints about – I think there was plenty of room for the bottom of the dress to look messy but I think the execution was carried out well. The final outfit by Chanel is where I become a bit unsure, it reminds me of daffodils and I don’t think I’m a fan of the white tassles but honestly not the worst I have seen. Fun Fact: the statues Olivia Dean is holding were designed by Matthew Williamson and was inspired by the Manchester worker bee, designed to represent honey.
Rosalia in Chanel

I’m honestly sat staring at this outfit because I’m not sure where to start. I honestly cannot decide if this is one of my favourite outfits or a complete mess. I love the top half but I don’t think the bottom half correctly matched the energy of the top.
Skepta in Mains

I actually really like this outfit despite it potentially being considered a bit basic. I love the belt accents and the bag matching the jacket. My only sticking point is the chain but I can look past it.
Harry Styles in Chanel

Not everyone can pull off a baggy suit but I think Harry Styles can. This beats a basic tailored black suit in my opinion (although I do agree you can’t go wrong with simple) but I can’t get on board with those shoes really – I think it’s the white socks.
Jade in Off White

Yeah not for me. The multi outfit combo is not working for me, maybe best to just pick one. This outfit screams Off White so I guess that’s a positive for their branding but I just don’t love the colours or the style, however extra points for the heels matching perfectly.
Dua Lipa in Gucci

No complaints I love this. The boots, top and shorts all matching with the contrasting white of the fur jacket. I just don’t think you can go wrong.
Celeste in Soma Faitanin and Cartier

Ummm. You know what she looks good, but she is also serving zombie apocalypse. I did have to search this up and apparently she is going for the vampire romantic aesthetic (can’t say I’ve heard of it) as opposed to the clean girl aesthetic that many normally go for. You know what: it’s definitely a statement.
Lola Young in M by Macy Grimshaw

Normally I’m all for how Lola Young wears anything other than a dress to awards shows however this one isn’t quite hitting the mark. The trousers are scales and locks? And the top looks like a graffitied barrel. Maybe there is something I’m missing here…
Sombr in Valentino

I honestly cannot get over the way he is staring into my soul right now but that aside I think there was so much potential for this outfit but the execution just wasn’t quite there. If you squint hard enough you can almost see it but then you stop squinting and its giving the greatest showman all over again.
As I read back my article I realise maybe I’m just a stickler for the basics and I’m potentially not creatively minded enough to see the full picture of the more extravagant outfits. After 11 outfit reviews I feel no more qualified to comment on fashion but
