House Shout 2026 – Vika O.

House Shout as we all know takes place every year, and with it coming up just in a few days, the energy around school is impossible to miss. Rehearsals are happening everywhere and everyday, the singing is getting louder and this year Mr Roe does not let St. Vincent and everyone else forget that they will win. House Shout is one of the most exiting events of the year (this year specially to Mr Roe), and it gives everyone a chance to show teamwork, creativity and house spirit.

However, with excitement sometimes comes tension as we all well know. Let us go back to last year: pupils and staff who were here will all remember that Mr Gould put lots of effort into winning, which put Collingwood and Howe under lots of tension. However, Howe won, meaning that Collingwood was not happy, especially Mr Gould. However, Mr Gould is not a houseparent of Collingwood anymore and so this year’s most competitive houseparent is Mr Roe. I overheard that St Vincent are practicing everyday until Mr Roe says that it is enough – St Vincent boys are you still alive? We are all scared for you.

Anyways as Howe won 2 years in a row, other houses do not want to let them win again. So, let’s see what song each house is doing this year. We will start with last year winner: Howe.

Howe is doing the song “Dear Future Husband” by Meghan Trainor. It is a pop song with a strong beat and clear rhythm. It/s fun and energetic which will help to engage the audience. If Howe will be smiley and do some nice moves, they will have all the chances to win again. On the other hand, everyone has a different taste in music, and this type of song will be harder to turn into shout. So, we will be able to see the results of this soon.

Hood this year is doing, “Wannabe” by Spice Girls. This song is also a pop song with high energy from start to finish and instantly recognisable, which will help Hood to build excitement and audience engagement. However, it has very fast pace, which could be challenging to some pupils in Hood. Soon we will see if Hood have managed to learn all the lyrics and stay on beat.

Colingwood this year is doing “Rock your Body” by Justin Timberlake. This song is well known and popular, has a strong beat and is good for dance-based performances, which I am sure everyone is waiting to see from Collingwood – but will they pull it off?

St Vincent is doing “I want it that Way” by Backstreet Boys. This song is extremely recognisable, and almost everyone knows it, which is always an advantage in this competition. Also, it can have a strong vocal focus, and most importantly we know that Mr Roe made St Vincent practice a lot. We are all expecting an amazing performance (Let’s hope the moves will be as good as last year) – no pressure St V. However, this song is not the best for House shout, but if St Vincent made some vocal changes, it can be interesting and good. We never know what to expect from St Vincent, so I am sure they have a surprise in store for us all.

Raleigh, who came second last year, is doing “Happy” by Pharrell Williams. Everyone knows this song well, and the name of the song speaks for itself. Raleigh will be trying to make everyone happy; this song suits House Shout and with some nice clapping and smiley faces it should be good. However, the song is repetitive, and Raleigh need to work even harder as there are more people compared to the boarding houses which we must take it into account. We will see how well they have managed to cooperate on Wednesday.

And finally, Drake have chosen “Everybody wants to rule the World” by Tears for Fears. Drake also have picked a very recognisable song, with a smooth and steady rhythm. This song also has a powerful meaning but is not the best choice for House shout. However, let me not make any predictions as Drake has lots of pupils as well, which gives them an advantage over boarding houses when it comes to being loud. However, let’s not forget that they might get marked down on how they walk up onto stage and to stay silent with this many people will be a challenge to Drake and Raleigh.

This year all the houses choose popular songs and as we all know House Shout is a fair field of play where every house has an equal chance to shine. With Howe defending their title, Hood showing off a high-energy Wannabe performance, Collingwood ready with their dance for Rock Your Body, St Vincent under Mr Roes intense guidance, Raleigh bringing smiles with their song Happy, and Drake showing off their loud performance with Everybody Wants to Rule the World, it is impossible to predict who will take the win this year. Any house could surprise us all, and that is what make House Shout so exiting. One thing is certain no matter who wins, the audience is in for a show full of energy, teamwork, and house spirit. I hope all pupils will have fun and enjoy Wednesday evening.
