The three secret tips of hooking viewers to your video – Arthur R

Grabbing viewers attention on social media platforms can be challenging, but this article will show you how to get people interested and watching. My name is Arthur Rogers (known as sailingrogers by TikTok) and I’m here to allow you to take the stage and create content that will stop your viewer in their tracks and engage with your video.

The modern world has lowered people’s attention span rapidly, through constant stimulation and too many sources of dopamine. When there is more interesting content just a scroll away, you have about three seconds to hook your viewer. Any longer and you’ve lost them. Through experimentation on my channel, I have discovered that it is brilliant for retention if you implement any of these things:

  1. In the beginning, have a bold text in the centre of the screen for 2 seconds.
  2. At the start, enthusiastically talk directly to the camera stating what the video is about.
  3. Show some exiting action right from the go.

Let’s look at how to use all of these.  But first, you need to understand that good content evokes emotion. Whether that’s happiness, sadness or excitement, people watch because they want to feel a connection to your content. Once you understand that, you are ready to dive into these secret methods; The first method is very simple but extremely effective. To pull this one off, simply ask a rhetorical question in a large bold text in the centre of the screen for one or two seconds. For example, in one of my videos I put ‘What is he doing…’. The viewer carries on watching to find out what happens. This method can be very successful if paired with method 3 as that video totalled 1.1 million views.

Next, is talking to the camera directly and getting to the point. The best way of doing this is by stating a problem and then telling the viewer to watch on to find out how to fix it. This method is good for more formal videos and can still be excitable and engaging. Simply record you talking to the camera; make sure you are looking directly at the lens at articulating your words. A great example of this is ‘Do you get cold in winter? Here are my top 3 tips to staying toasty.’ By doing this, you are immediately engaging your viewers and encouraging them to watch on

Finally, is tip number 3, probably one of the best tips here, it requires you to get a good shot of an intense, humorous or breathtaking event. In my case, it’s a funny capsize where I get all wet. This is a great technique as the crazier or exiting your shot is the more people will be hooked. As stated before, it goes great with putting bold text because it gives your viewer more to look at and it is more stimulating – therefore they will stay for longer.

Now you know how to use the 3 secret methods for hooking people to your video. Now it’s up to you to make the rest of your video more engaging to get those lucrative views.
