Teachers Tell All (Almost) – 2 Truths and A Lie (Staff Edition) – Mia P

Two Truths and A Lie is a popular game played worldwide by many age groups for many different scenarios, and most appropriately is the most likely game you will get asked to play on your first day at a new school, so as one of the newest editors for the Bubble, I thought I’d bring it to RHS, but make it Staff Edition. I have asked various staff for their best kept secrets as well as their most unsuspecting lies and I’ve accumulated them here for you to take your guesses (as well as giving my own 2 pence so I can pass this off as me writing an article to Mr Hodson).

Before I let you read on, I should tell you that this doesn’t come without an incentive to do well, email me when you think you have the answers, and the first correct answers might just win themselves a packet of Haribos…

Miss Judge (Head of Classics)

Whether you know Miss Judge from your Classics lessons (“that means Latin and the very best bits of history!“) or maybe even History lessons or for her infamous dogs Monty and Stella, everyone knows about her love for horses “I’ve competed at the top of national level, and most excitingly, I’ve just bred my very first foal, Arthur (or Artie for short), who is already keeping me on my toes!” Although I have never had the pleasure of being taught by Miss Judge, her lessons don’t come without raging reviews (and you might even get some guest appearances from Monty and Stella themselves (no promises!)). I should warn you though, spotting the lie might just be harder than conjugating irregular Latin verbs.

I’ve been to Paris four times.

Ahh the ‘City of Love’ but does Miss Judge love to go there? (I’m sorry that was bad even for me)

My dog Stella has qualified for Crufts in 2026.

I wouldn’t be surprised, have you seen that dog?

I was asked to be the equestrian stunt double for Lily James in the Cinderella movie.

I personally hope this was true and she took the offer so her equestrian dreams could take on the big screen.

Mr Lloyd (Maths teacher and hockey coach)

Some of you might know Mr Lloyd for his YouTube channel Mathswithlloydy where he has quickly amounted 1.33 thousand subscribers through his all-popular marketing strategy of telling students to subscribe whenever you enter or exit his class and I have even heard there are now branded pens going about. Instead, you may know Mr Lloyd better as a hockey coach at school and outside of school as well as being an avid player and all-around hockey fanatic in his free time. But let’s see, can you spot Mr Lloyd’s lie, or has he managed to aerial it clean over your head?

I am a current Guiness World Record Holder for the Longest Ever Indoor Hockey Match with Havering Hockey Club.

Honestly a bit of a random one but if anyone was going to hold the record it would be Mr Lloyd.

Kieran McKenna is a big role model of mine, and over summer I was able to observe some of the preseason training sessions at Ipswich Town.

Is Mr Lloyd as big of a fan of football as he is of hockey???

My wife and I love musicals, we often travel to London to take in a show, our favourite is Les Misérables.

Personally, I’m a bit more basic with Mamma Mia being my favourite but Les Miserables is a staple piece. Hopefully they can enjoy the school’s upcoming production this year.

Mr Gould (English Teacher and former Hawke/Collingwood House Master)

I’m sure many of you around the school know Mr Gould from your lively and fun English lessons (I might be biased as an A Level English Language student myself) or for some of the older pupils, you may have had the joy of having Mr Gould as your housemaster at some point during your school career. Some say after working in a boy’s boarding house he’s a very good lie detector, but can you be just as good?

I once got seasick when the boat was moored at the dock

Not that I am a fan of boats myself, but I can’t say I’ve ever heard of someone getting seasick while still at the dock.

Mr Hodson sang at my wedding

During my lessons with Mr Hodson, I have had many renditions of Radiohead songs on guitar but never a vocal piece (I heard this required a lot of “stretching of the voice”), maybe we need a solo for our next chapel performance.

I once got banned from attending fixtures at Framlingham because I argued with their coach

Nothing better than a bit of competitive sports…

So, there are our first entries for the week. Time to get guessing! Answers will all be revealed in the next article.
