The Summer of Love: Staff Wedding Bonanza!
With weddings on consecutive July weekends, the Bubble team caught up with bride-to-be, Miss Izod, and the ever gallant groom, Mr Gould (to be clear, they are not marrying each other) …
INTERVIEW WITH MR GOULD:
When’s the big day and how far in advance did you set it? The big day is July 7th – so a week after we finish. We had about 18 months to arrange everything. For us, this felt about right as there was a bit more to do than I had anticipated. Especially when there are certain pinch points at school when I don’t have time to think about flowers or confetti.
If it was continuous drizzle on the day, would you cry?
I would be disappointed for Kate – she’s looked forward to this day (and who can blame her? What a tremendously lucky girl) for a long time and I am sure she has a picture in her head of what the day will be like. I wouldn’t want her to be disappointed with any element but I suppose if it does rain we will just have to get on with it. Besides, I do not understand people who fret about every little thing. Things like the weather are outside of your control, so why worry? I am more worried about Mr Hodson singing in the church than the weather.
How would you describe your stag do in three words? Arduous. Guinness(y). Hilarious.
If you could invite any celebrity to the wedding, who would it be, and who would you sit them next to at the wedding breakfast? I would invite Rachel Riley (maths woman: Countdown). She would be sat next to Mr. Battman so that he could talk differential equations with her and see if they have anything in common. If he is sat directly next to her, he would have to talk to her. He might even ask her to dance – unlikely, but one never knows.
You’ve been invited to each other’s weddings. Are you going/will you be stealing ideas/if not going – what are you playing at??? We have been invited to the Izod/Miller wedding but, sadly, we will be on honeymoon then. I am gutted for a few reasons: firstly, they have become very good ‘couple’ friends of ours and are very good value. Secondly, having spent too much money on our wedding it will be nice to have a ‘free’ meal. Thirdly, and please forgive me for saying this, but having thought about all the little details that go into a wedding for the first time, I would actually appreciate the thought that they’ve put into theirs. Miss Izod is a very stylish person and has excellent taste; so it might be a good thing that I do not get to see their wedding and be angry that they have better flowers or confetti.
Tell us about your honeymoon plans? Traditionally the honeymoon is something that the gentleman is meant to arrange, however, not being a gentleman myself I did not have this issue. We struggled with the honeymoon destination. At first we thought of visiting South Africa; largely because we have heard the Du Toits prattle on about how wonderful it is for years. However, we would be going in their winter so I would be miffed if it was warmer in Holbrook than it was there. We then thought of Canada; but we got an itinerary from a company that arranges these things and there was a lot of hiking and such things like that. So we settled on Italy. We have four days in Rome doing culture-vulture type activities. Then we have ten days in Sardinia. I have never been to Italy before so I am really excited to take my soon-to-be-wife somewhere new and exciting. Naturally, I am devastated that I will be without Rupert for two weeks but Kate said he couldn’t come – it made me question the entire thing.
INTERVIEW WITH MISS IZOD
When’s the big day and how far in advance did you set it?
Saturday 14th July. Although technically we married in August last year, by Rev. Dan Patten in a small Icelandic chapel accompanied and witnessed by a select few Y13 geographers.
Joe proposed the evening before speech day last year, but we didn’t settle on a date and venue until September; it has been a crazy but fun whirlwind of planning since then!
If it was continuous persistent drizzle on the day, would you cry?
Not at all. There’s no controlling the wild world of geography and we’ll take anything thrown at us on the day (but please be sunny).
How would you describe your hen do in three words?
Throwback, Obscure, Sequins
If you could invite any celebrity to the wedding, who would it be, and who would you sit them next to at the wedding breakfast?
I asked Joe to answer this question, imagining he would respond with someone to mingle between guests, sit amongst everyone during the wedding breakfast, a well-considered heartfelt celebrity close to both our hearts…his response:
‘Leonardo DiCaprio, sat next to me. Or Margot Robbie, again sat next to me; you’d need to find somewhere else to sit Harri.’
You’ve been invited to each other’s weddings? Are you going/will you be stealing ideas/if not going – what are you playing at???
Yes, it has actually been so lovely planning, venting and sharing stories of wedding preparation together. We are gutted Carl and Katie won’t be at ours, but cannot wait to ideas steal at theirs!
Tell us about your honeymoon plans?
We are escaping to a Chateau in the south of France for a week, before joining Mr & Mrs Millington, Mr and Mrs Harvey and Mr Gutierrez in Provence.
Once pennies are saved we hope to travel around Scandinavia (with Mr Mann as tour planner) in a geo-packed adventure next Easter.
