Why did England lose the World Cup?- Bella F

This summer the FIFA World Cup took place, hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The final took place in the New York New Jersey stadium with over 80,000 spectators watching Spain vs Argentina for the first time since 1966 where Argentina took the glory. However, the game this year took a turn. After a 0-goal scoring first and second half, in extra time Spain’s Ferran Torres scored the first and last goal of the match in the 106th minute. Leaving the final score to be 1-0 to Spain and to be crowned champions again since 2010!

This year for England was complicated, having a new manager after Gareth Southgate resigned, Thomas Tuchel stepped up to the role of England Manager. Creating a new way of play for the Brits, they started in the tournament against Croatia with a 4-2 win, followed by Ghana where the score ended as 0-0 creating a continuous pressure on the team. This was followed by wins against Panama, Rebublic of Congo, Mexico, and Norway. However, after a devastating semi-final against Argentina, England was sent packing due to a 1-2 loss and being knocked out the tournament. But why did England lose?
I asked members of Nelson house their opinion.

Alfie said, ‘Argentina had an advantage because the referees were biased.’
Tait said, ‘Tuchel brought on the five back too early.’
George said, ‘brought on the defenders too early.’
Charlie said, ‘They put the defenders on too early.’
Esme said, ‘the favourable treatment of the Argentinian football team.’
In my opinion, ‘Jude Bellingham was too good for the team!’
