‘Exclusive members club holiday’- only with Band!

I’m going to let you into a secret: our school band is actually really good fun! Yes- shocker- I know it has its stereotypes of being ‘nerdy’ and more, but its not. It has so much to offer and it’s open to everyone- don’t stress you don’t need all 9s to join. Seriously, band has its perks.

One of the biggest advantages of band are the fantastic trips! I mean genuinely, who could say no to going to Singapore and Malaysia for 9 days??? Well, band couldn’t (nor could choir) and so that’s where we’re off to in the Christmas holidays- don’t worry we will be back in time for Christmas Day. From a night safari in Singapore to exploring Kuala Lumpa and Malacca, it sounds like its going to be a blast. This opportunity is only available for members of choir and band, so it’s basically an exclusive members club holiday. Perfect. If you’re late to the bus, there’s a big trip every 2 years, so hop on now to start preparing! But!!!!! There a more trips, for instance next week we are off to Portsmouth for 2 days to eat out at TGI Friday’s. Just kidding- we’re going to have some practice sessions and tours with the one and only Royal Marine’s Band. Pretty insane! And of course, we also do get TGI Friday’s, for which I had good fun picking out what I wanted from the menu- the whisky-glazed chicken looks soooo good.

PS This was some of us in Canada, our last band/choir trip. Such good fun!

The trips in band are genuinely worth the hype: time with your friends (both the new ones you make and the older ones you forced to join band with you- I made some of my best friends in band) and time away from school and some epic experiences. What’s more to want???

Well, to add to this, we all know Divvies can get a bit, well, difficult, just standing there and listening to band, so why not jump ship and come join us? You’ll have something to do almost the entire time, and become a part of our deep-rooted tradition. It’s pretty fantastic knowing that you are keeping culture alive with every note you play.

As a side note for the seniors (or the futuristic youth): this also can look pretty good on your CV and personal statement, as it shows commitment, resilience, teamwork, dedication and more!

Alsooooo, you’ll be under the supervision of a pretty cool Head of Band, if I may say so myself cough cough. Kidding, but I’m not scary, I promise. Everyone in band is welcoming and friendly and here to have a good time- my goal is to help keep this up.

So, even if just a small part of you is feeling a littleee bit intrigued- come give it a shot! We can help teach you a new instrument from the trumpet to the tuba, or we can invite you in as an experienced player. Rehearsals are Monday 1630-1720 and Wednesday 1310-1335. If you can’t make every session, please don’t worry, many of our experienced players have TPG or other commitments that they sometimes need to attend. I look forward to seeing some of you there… even if you’re just coming for the trips!
