Year 13 summer plans- what are they up to? – Genevieve

As exams begin to role around, many will be looking ahead to the summer as motivation. So, what are some of our year 13s up to?

Libby MW:

Libby’s first plan is to get lots of sleep, which will definitely be well deserved after exams! Then, she is going on holiday with her family for 2 weeks before going off to Spain with a friend from home. They’ll be visiting Madrid, Valencia, Barcelona, and then to her friend’s grandpa’s house in the south of France- sounds divine!!! After that, Libby is potentially planning to go on holiday with friends from school or maybe an internship (though a break from work this summer might call that idea off). Finally, the end of summer will be spent preparing for uni- exciting!

Harry L:

To jump right in Harry’s going climbing (don’t know where- but one would guess somewhere with cliffs…?) for week. After that, his big plans are to go travelling with his girlfriend Freya for the majority of summer. They’re looking to go to South East Asia but if that doesn’t work then they suppose Europe will do! A family holiday is due next, though to which location Harry isn’t quite sure yet. If he has anymore free time Harry also wants to try and go hiking in Scotland. This sounds like it’s a very nature-based holiday & so of course seems amazing!

Anna E:

If you’re looking for a jam-packed summer then this is the one for you! Anna’s off to an Olivia Dean concert after exams end (couldn’t think of a better way to finish myself), followed by some sailing, a trip to the Isle of Wight, and Harry Styles’ concert (going to be insane!). And this is alllll before summer has technically even started… Then, to celebrate the official end of school Anna’s off to France to see some of the Tour de France- very bougee- before jetting off to Portugal with Hebe. Side note: Anna you better be tanned after this! Some more sailing follows this before she goes off to the Lake District with a friend (maybe a little harder to get a tan now…) Now fully in August, Anna’s doing- guess what- more sailing, which is happening over results day as well. After that, the Netherlands is the concluding destination for this pretty cool summer! Also, Anna wants to do work in between this somehow?!

Nanayaa Z:

Whilst some people’s summers are fully set in stone; others (like Nanayaa) are still waiting to be completely done. However, Nanayaa’s current plans are already sounding awesome! A girls trip to Barcelona, which seems divine, 3 different concerts spread out (Bruno Mars, The Weeknd, and Playboi Carti), and Nanayaa’s also shadowing an actuary for work experience. By the way, for those of you who were wondering an actuary is ‘a professional who uses mathematical, statistical, and analytical skills to assess risk and uncertainty in finance’ which sounds firstly like a lot of hard work and secondly very interesting. Hopefully you’ll still be able to catch some of the summer sun! On the line up is also the festival All Points East potentially. Overall, Nanayaa’s summer sounds like a great way to finish after school- especially with all the concerts!

I also thought we could do a quick comparison with another teacher’s summer to see if there were many differences… Not that Miss Judge’s year 13 summer was that long ago!

Miss Judge:

‘When I left school, my summer was absolutely wild. I worked late shifts in the local pub, Ye Olde Nags Head, where they even named a beer after me. It was a Bitter Blonde, which felt both flattering and slightly rude, but apparently very on brand. In the mornings, I worked for the local hunt riding wonderfully unhinged horses and looking after the hounds. During the day, I had a couple of horses in for training because I was determined to become a professional horse rider. I was competing twice a week, sometimes three times, which meant I basically lived in boots and smelled permanently of horses. It was chaotic, exhausting, and completely brilliant.’

And now, instead of working late nights at the pub, Miss Judge is up marking all our essays and printing out worksheets. Pretty different! I wonder what all our year 13s will be doing in a few summers time instead?
