A Mirror Crack’d: a Sixth Form Play – Holly L
Next week our very own Sixth Form will be bringing A Mirror Crack’d to the stage, a classic murder mystery from the brilliant Agatha Christie. Expect glamour, gossip, suspicious tea drinking, and just enough secrets to make you suspicious of everyone!
The story takes place in the seemingly peaceful English village of St Mary Mead – a place where nothing ever happens… except when it absolutely does. When a glamorous film star arrives to film nearby, the village is thrown into a frenzy of excitement. Naturally, a perfectly ordinary party soon becomes considerably less ordinary, and before long it’s clear that someone present knows far more than they’re letting on.
And enter Miss Marple, the village’s most observant resident. Armed with knitting needles, sharp intuition and the ability to remember everyone’s embarrassing past behaviour, she begins to untangle the mystery. The result is a web of secrets, social awkwardness, and polite conversation hiding extremely impolite truths.
In other words: classic Christie.
Now a guide to the characters:
Miss Marple – played by Zara M
A sweet elderly lady who appears to spend most of her time knitting. Do not be fooled, she has probably already solved three crimes before breakfast!
Marina Gregg – played by Daisy A
A famous film star who arrives in the village with glamour, drama and enough emotional intensity to power several soap operas.
Jason Rudd – played by Devon L
Marina’s devoted husband and film director. Calm, supportive, and likely wondering how his quiet filming schedule turned into a village-wide spectacle.
Heather Leigh – played by Scarlett M
An enthusiastic fan who is extremely excited to meet her favourite star. Possibly the most determined autograph-seeker in fictional England.
Sybil Leigh – played by Mia P
Heather’s sister, which means she Is extremely familiar with enthusiasm, dramatic storytelling and hearing the same anecdote several times.
Dolly Bantry – played by Sophia H
The kind of person who knows everything about everyone – and if she doesn’t, she’ll find out shortly.
Lola Brewster – played by Holly L
A fellow Hollywood star who brings even more glamour to the village – and proof that celebrities travel in packs! She is a sweet and amiable girl, but is she really who she says she is?
Inspector Craddock – played by Alice G-D
A police inspector attempting to investigate events with professionalism and logic, which is considerably harder when Miss Marple keeps getting everything right!
Ella Zielinsky – played by Ginny F
A film assistant trying to keep the production running smoothly. Unfortunately, smoothy is not a word often associated with murder mysteries.
Cherry Baker – played by Lara C
Miss Marple’s housemaid, who probably hears and sees more village gossip than the local newspaper.
Giuseppe – played by Joel S
The impeccably professional Italian butler, who maintains dignity, order, and a very impressive level of composure considering the level of chaos surrounding him.
Don’t forget to get your tickets before they sell out!
