Meet the Peer Mentors 2026 – Mia P

We’ve all had those days where the corridors feel a little too loud, the homework pile feels a little too high or you just need a friendly face to catch your eye and smile at you or have a conversation with you. So, who do you turn to when you’re having a bad day or a problem that you’re not quite ready to approach a teacher with? Turn to a Peer Mentor. Chosen for our empathy, leadership and ability to listen, the newest group of mentors is officially on duty. So let me introduce you to them:

Name: Mia Pickering

School year: 12

House: Raleigh

Duty house: Blake (The year 7s may have already seen me around in Blake previously)

Favourite sport: Golfing or skiing but it has been a while since I’ve managed to go skiing

Favourite lesson: Got to be Psychology or English Language

Favourite movie: Mamma Mia, it’s a classic and my first time going to London was to see Mamma Mia for my 4th birthday. However, I love to go to the cinema and to analyse movies, so I constantly have a new favourite – Marty Supreme is currently up there.

Favourite book: I can’t think of a favourite overall book, but I am currently reading Holly by Stephen King and 1984 by George Orwell

If you could have any superpower, what would it be: It is a bit rogue, but elasticity. There are so many activities in my life that I can think of where elasticity would be helpful, like as I type this I’m in bed and would so love to just switch the lights off even when the switch is on the opposite side of my room (I’m tired please forgive me)

Best way to deal with stress: Listening to music always (especially in my bed) but if it’s the evening an early night is a close second and always, I turn to my friends.

Name: Hebe McQuaker

School year: 12

House: Drake

Duty house: Drake

Favourite sport: Has to be skiing however there isn’t enough time in the year to do this as much as I’d like to.

Favourite lesson: Music because of the amount of tea we consume, however academically I’d say history is superior.

Favourite movie: Impossible choice and depends on my mood.  Notting Hill is my favourite for a feel-good film or About time if I’m feeling sentimental or need a good cry.

Favourite book: I don’t have one in particular but a murder mystery is my go to. However, my bookshelves would suggest that Tudor books are also a popular choice…

Interesting/fun fact about yourself: I lived in India for a year when I was 4 which was very interesting and very hot as you might expect.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be: To teleport. I think about this very often as I’m often walking from one side of the school to the other so would love it if I could just appear in the music school immediately without having to speed walk.

Best way to deal with stress: Chatting with friends over a cup of tea and some chocolate. You can probably see a bit of a theme appearing around tea…

Name: I’m Jeremaia Tagica, though almost everyone knows me simply as Jerry.

School year: I’m currently in Year 11

House: I am proudly a part of St. Vincent – undeniably the best house, if you ask me. Duty house: This year, I’ve taken on the role of peer mentor and have been assigned to Collingwood, where I’m really looking forward to supporting students, getting involved in the house community, and hopefully bringing a bit of positive energy to the people I work with.

Favourite sport and lesson: When I’m not helping out around school, you’ll usually find me doing something active. Athletics is easily my favourite sport, and in the classroom, I’m torn between Spanish, PE, and PRE — all subjects I genuinely enjoy and chose for GCSE because they keep me curious and engaged.

Favourite movie: Outside of schoolwork, I’m a big fan of Kingsman, mostly because it mixes action, humour, and style in a way that never gets old.

Interesting/fun fact about yourself: Something people are often surprised to learn about me is my background. Most assume I’m fully Fijian, but I actually have Irish and Samoan roots as well. It’s a mix I’m proud of, and it always makes for a fun conversation when people find out.

Best way to deal with stress: When things get stressful, music is my go‑to escape. Whether I’m messing around on the guitar or piano, or just singing for the sake of it, it’s the one thing that always helps me reset. I wouldn’t claim to be the best musician, but that’s never really the point – it’s just something that keeps me grounded and happy.

That is just 11 of our Peer Mentors and a very small percentage. If you would ever like to speak to a Peer Mentor you can find us from the posters around the school, our badges on our blazers (pictured above) or you can ask any member of staff, house master/mistress or Mrs Eales to put you in contact with one of us. Please never feel too shy to talk to us or email us, remember nothing is ever unimportant and if something is bothering you then it is definitely important enough for us to help you with.
