Dishes of the week- Liya and Gen
Having enjoyed the familiar rota of dishes all week, Liya and I thought we would both try out a new dish. Liya had the opportunity to do so after a cancelled match, while I thought I’d change things up on Friday. Trying a new meal can often be a little bit daunting because I mean, who wants to miss out on lunch because they don’t like something??? Hands sweating, knees quaking, Liya and I both conquered this huge fear, and dug into our new lunches…
Firstly, I thought I’d think- eat- outside the box by trying a veggie ‘dirty’ burger instead of the usual panini. Having not been able to read the menu, I asked one of the servers what this patty/burger was, and over the din I made out ‘veggie/vegan???’ and ‘burger’, so I took the risk for the sake of it being a burger and got it. With a nice toasted bun, my initial judgement is mixed as I take a cautious first bite, consisting slightly of who-knows-what… and it’s so good! My doubts of having no meat are knocked away, the slight spice is a nice surprise and the toasted bun adds a great crispness. The texture of the burger itself is a new one, slightly soft and minced- it reminds me of pulled duck in some ways (minus the meat itself). Trying this burger took a whole lot of courage for my hungry self, but I’m actually glad I did it, as now I can vary my meals even further. So, while sticking with our safety meals might feel…safe, the enjoyment gained from trying a new dish is definitely worth giving it a try!!
(P.S. I would have happily gone up for seconds of that veggie burger; I honestly recommend trying it when it next pops up next in 3 weeks time.)
Now picture this: torrential rain, howling winds, lightning flashing above your head and thunder racketing the skies. This was the weather for Gen and I’s 2nd XI hockey match last weekend. Due to the weather, the hockey match was completely cancelled. As a result, the team took shelter in the brand new club house, and waiting for the teams was hot match tea. This week the school chose to do hotdogs and tea. Through previous experiences, schools never have mustard so to find mustard was a pleasant surprise! The hotdogs were served in a hot container which kept them perfectly warm and the selection of mustard and ketchup allowed the players to choose what sauce they would prefer- or in my case both. Furthermore, the sausages were not ultra processed Frankfurters but were actual sausage meat! Unfortunately I did not see any vegetarian hotdogs, though I’m sure there was, as the school doesn’t fail to provide for dietary requirements. To note, Framlingham seemed to enjoy the hotdogs as I saw a girl go up for seconds (or perhaps she was just very hungry after our tiring match…) In conclusion I am very happy with the effort the school put into the match tea as most schools provide crisps and apples. I suppose it’s good to have nutrition after a match but a warm meal like hotdogs hit in every way.

Pictured above was the clubhouse on its opening day.
Therefore, Gen and I have now successfully tried a new meal, and we both recommend to do so in every way. Just make sure you definitely don’t hate any of the ingredients- otherwise P6/7/8 may go a whole lot slower waiting for more food!
