Life and Meaning – Ava O
Question about the purpose and meaning of life have been asked from generation to generation. Sometimes it comes down to a crude philosophical reflection, ‘Is life worth living’? However, I think it is not the answer that is the issue, but the question itself. This question should not be “Is life worth living” but “How does the way you live your life effect its worth?”
The word “worth” has the often been issued the definition of being equivalent in value to the sum or item specified. However, things could also have emotional or sentimental worth. The word “Life” is a very big word in the sense that it can be spent or used in many ways; In some movies life is even a currency! This is where the richest live the longest and the poor must work extremely hard to live. However, life’s worth shouldn’t be the time spent, but the quality of the time spent. It’s worth. For example, doing adventurous things or spending time with your family or even just taking a moment and admiring the extraordinary world around you could be a life worth living to you. Nevertheless, defining worth in life could mean many things to many different people; That’s why the worth can never really be calculated or defined.
In addition to this a major part of life, which many underestimate, is desire. The motivation to want or to dream. Many think life’s worth could be defined by fulfilling or achieving all of your greatest desires. This may be true for some and not for others. Desires can be the greatest and cruellest things in this life; It can decrease and increase “life’s worth” when desires turn in to more or less than its original state. However, if you don’t dare to desire or dream in life your curiosity will never be alive and the question of “Well-lived life” resumes.
In conclusion, life may never have a worth or even a definition, but how would you like your life to be defined and how would you like to one day look back at it and ask yourself the very query “Was it worth it?”.
