All the articles we meant to write, but didn’t – Lauren S

As we head to the end of our term as Bubble editors, I cannot help but reflect on the last two years. Some of us have written more articles than others – some of us say we will write something, and never do (don’t look at me…) and so, in light of this, I thought I would collate a list of the articles we all said, at some point or another, we would write. For some people, I may have to cut some off, because there are too many, but I hope it is a source of amusement for you, if, of course, this article makes it out of my drafts…

We’ll start with me. This could very quickly become embarrassing.

  • ‘Why don’t we value the humanities anymore?’ – I was excited about this one, and it made me feel intelligent.
  • Any of the Oscars or BAFTAs: as a drama scholar, I was always interested in these, but getting non-copyrighted photographs always proved a challenge
  • The eagle-eyed amongst you will see that I never wrote the follow-up to my Burns Night article…

Next up is Taylor H, who has rather consistently posted their memes of the week, as well as putting up the scholars’ bubble articles each week! They have been pretty good…only one article they never got around to writing.

  • ‘A Guide to a successful transition to year 12’ was the article…but it was put in pages, not posts, so didn’t end up making it out there. Easily done! You don’t just need writing skills to be a bubble editor – tech skills help too!

You may have noticed that our head girl, Molly N, is excellent at getting her articles out! We owe her for the incredible series revival of ‘Forgotten RHS’, and beyond that, she has consistently contributed to the Bubble with many favourite articles. But how many never made it to being posted?

  • Well…technically none. She was, however, in charge of the polls, so – her crime? Not updating them. For those that have seen a poll up for more than two weeks – you now know who to blame. Her excuse? That they didn’t have enough interaction the week before. Not quite sure Mr Hodson bought that one.

We’ve always been able to count on Eri S for a thought-provoking piece on the Bubble, whether its ‘Can You Separate the Art from the Artist’ or her interview with Cressida Cowell. There’s only one article that never quite made it out of her drafts…

  • ‘The Cons of a Digital Detox’ – she repeatedly promised it would make its way onto here, and yet, it never showed. Would’ve been an interesting read…but I suppose A Level English Literature takes priority.

Onto Bella P – arguably the most consistent editor. From ‘Staff through the Keyhole’ (which, I believe, has been a struggle at times) to interviewing both Reverend Page and Mr Latif, she has never once missed a beat.

  • I mean it. Bella doesn’t have any articles that didn’t make it out. She managed to post every single one. Get this girl an award!!

Tilly J was our Rugby Commentator – almost every week, without fail, she satisfied her rugby fans with an account of the latest highs and lows.

  • Having had a quick scroll on the ‘edit posts’ page, we can see that she didn’t manage to post her article entitled ‘Gap year or Gap Yah’ – certainly sounds interesting!

And then Phoebe G, who has written about everything, from house shout to sports, from Maggie Smith to Burns Night – she’s done it all. But what didn’t make it out of her drafts?

  • Evidently, the email to me. We all know for a fact she has said she would publish an article and never managed, so I guess she’s just been locked in on her studies. I don’t blame her!

We hope you’ve all enjoyed the articles we’ve put up over the past few years as much as we’ve enjoyed writing them. A massive THANK YOU goes to Mr Hodson, for hosting the weekly Bubble meetings and sending out the email, as well as keeping us on track. Year

Finally, a shout out to Mim M, who quit during the Michaelmas term of year 12, but is still on the email chain…
