RHS’s Most Underrated Team- Molly N

Last Saturday saw the boys senior hockey teams battle it out against Framlingham. Whilst the firsts and seconds took heavy losses, the mighty thirds showed them how its done by pulling through with a draw (and being one of the most exciting hockey matches I’ve watched!).

A clearly difficult decision choosing team members resulted in 17 players, with Charlie B as captain, as well as their coach and umpire, Mr Llyod, and recently appointed team manager, Ed R. The range of skill was very diverse, some having never played a match before and others I’m sure Mr Chandler will be scouting for the firsts, making for some dynamic play.

Team manager, Ed, briefing the team

Tensions were high but there were low expectations set by the previous teams, and so none of us spectators were expecting the match that was about to unfold. The highlight of this eventful fixture was the incredible goal scored by Harley M, shot from the baseline into the top corner of the net. An ecstatic Mr Chandler later said that that was the best goal he has ever seen as a coach- take notes, firsts! Their second goal was equally as smooth, with the ball being passed from the baseline into Jake A who scored. This well-planned strategy (which I’m sure they thoroughly discussed during their team huddle) levelled them with Framlingham. With two minutes left and and drawing, Bertie H made the strategic decision to push the ball away during the opponent’s free hit, giving Mr Llyod the chance to show off all his shiny new cards before landing on the green one. They finished the match on a well deserved score of 2-2, giving the other teams something to learn from.

I think it’s safe to say it was an exciting match to watch and I would advise getting to their next fixture early as I’m sure the side-line will be packed!
