The Rise of the Nepo Baby – Isabel T
‘Nepo Baby’ is a term used to describe those with extreme favourable family dynamics (nepotism) and has been recently added to the dictionary due to its increasing relevance in media today. This could include your mother/father just so happening to be a film director, actress, singer, chef, casting director, model, you name it. When being blessed with such parents, you would of course be destined for fame, flashing lights or, as I dare say, talent. However, as every corner in Hollywood seems to have an early-twenties nepo baby claiming to have made success independently, which of these actually deserve a spot in the limelight? Anyway, here are my views on some nepo babies you may already be aware of.
Lila Moss
Nothing stands out more than model nepo babies who stand at a measly 5’4 surrounded by self-made 5’11 models with stunning catwalks and the perfect frame to model clothes, hence the name. However, as soon as we delve into the nepo baby modelling universe, we fall flat once again. One example of this is Lila Moss, who’s mother is of course, Kate Moss, famous supermodel of the 90’s. However, if your mother was a model, a short one too, maybe it’s best to put that career path to rest, as constant comparison between mother and daughter is bound to happen. Lila stands at around 5’5, but obviously modelling agencies tweak this a few inches in order to land her in shows such as Versace, Miu Miu and Fendi where they had put her in the tallest heels they could find. Lila does of course have stunning features, making her as beautiful as her mother is, but maybe it’s best to stick with editorial fashion or shoots, we can all agree that she’s photogenic. But let’s leave the catwalk be for now.
Sofia Coppola
With a father directing such films as all of the Godfather series and Apocalypse Now, it is somehow bound that his daughter would be involved in a similar process. However, I am in all ways very glad Sofia chose the same path of directing, as her films such as trending Priscilla, Lost in Translation, Marie Antoinette and The Bling Ring, is clear that she is passionate about the female perspective and of course a sense of romanticism within her movies. Sofia’s talent is unmissable and is why her work includes beautiful, almost fantastical shots and cinematography. Bravo!
Brooklyn Beckham
Posh Spice and David Beckham’s first born, Brooklyn, has been fleeting around various job opportunities such as modelling (of course), football, photographing and now cooking. Most famous for his engagement and marriage to a billionaire heiress and actress, Nicola Peltz, he recently created a pop-up restaurant after pursuing his passion of cooking, which critics called a ‘mess’. Where Brooklyn did not actually end up cooking the food made for this pop-up event. Who knows how long this will last until he moves onto his next passion?
Gigi / Bella Hadid
There are of course some exceptions to the model nepo baby stereotype, where these two sisters are owning the runway for every major designer brand you can think of: Diesel, Burberry, Versace, Dolce & Gabbana, Yves St Laurent, Louis Vuitton and of course much more. Both sisters stand tall at around 5’9-5’11, and are mothered by Yolanda Hadid, another famous model. These sisters are highly loved by all of the fashion community, even the fashion critics give them credit for the intense personality they give to their looks. Much loved by all fashion brands, they are also heavily endorsed by beauty brands such as Charlotte Tilbury. With their careers at their peak, I look forward to how their future careers aim to plan out, including a vitamin drink ‘Kin Euphorics’ from Bella, we can expect lots more from them in the future, as well as from Gigi and Zayn Malik’s son, Khai.
