Biggest Prefect Shirt Statements of Week 1 – Emi S
Finally. Free rein over our shirt choices – as long as they’re within sensible parameters. Well, ‘sensible’ seems to be a rather subjective term…
Here are last week’s biggest and boldest:
Theo shocked us all by wearing this on the very first day of school. Perfect way to put your boldest foot forward from day one, but I think this one might be limited to be worn once a week at most. Not too sure it goes with the tie, but the pattern is sparse enough to actually resemble a floral print (or a Ming vase), unlike some… but we’ll get to those later.
‘On Wednesdays we wear pink’ vs. Pink Shirt Friday is a hotly debated topic in Nelson – either way, there’s a lot of pink shirts about. Not heard of Pink Shirt Friday? Don’t worry, you’ll soon catch on as more and more Year 13s succumb to wearing various shades of pink every time there’s fish and chips on the menu. As shown below, Mathilda, Daisy, and Charlotte complete the pink spectrum in various shades and textures, and are only three of a multitude of pink-shirt wearers.
Not sure if Denis always wears games socks with his school uniform (split rig – tut, tut) but I think these matching monstrosities are enough to distract from that fact. You can barely tell they’re supposed to be floral – the print looks like something your uncle would pick out in a Scandinavian mountain shop on holiday labelled ‘arctic urban camo’. Love them or hate them, words were not minced at last week’s prefect meeting so if you manage to catch a glimpse, they’re trying to blend in and hide from Mr Dixon.
This trio comes from our very own Head Girl, Mathilda. As you can see, she’s a big fan of the contrast collar. She’s stayed relatively safe with the pastel hues, but the pattern mixing makes you look twice to appreciate the subtler of the prefect shirt statements this week.
Clemmie’s pick this year comes with strawberries – perfect for the summer months. Honestly think there should be more fruit-themed shirts but alas, some people don’t want to be thinking too much about food in the middle of their P4 History lesson.
This is my favourite shirt: print is small enough so that not too much is going on, colours complement each other, looks good with the rest of the uniform – perfect, really.
Finally, the one you’ve all been waiting for. Though first initially disappointed with his array of white shirts in the first week, Muiris has pulled it out the bag and provided us with his collection of Hawaiian and similarly-themed shirts (though in my opinion they’re tasteful, not gaudy). Shirt could do with a bit of tucking in and maybe someone on his corridor should show him where the iron is, but other than that, I’m expecting to see this one all year round.
Don’t forget to vote for your favourites!
