Always look on the bright side of life – Toby Sh.
Without a doubt our daily life is stressful, and most things in life are not as what we would want them to be ideally. Take the recent CCF field day as an example: it was pleasant for some of us that we are allowed to walk around and shooting guns, which is such an unusual experience. However, it ended and what followed were lessons. But being pessimistic about this is not a great idea.
People often wonder whether it is a good or a bad day. Whether people are happy or not mainly depends on what happens to them. But why should we be pessimistic? The bad day always goes away but what stays is the tough person. We are all designed to be tough and to overcome the difficulties that we are facing.
Moreover, how the day went is all just a comment but the fact we are ignoring is the blessing. For example, pupils complain about their preps, but forgetting that it is already a blessing to study at RHS. How the day went is actually just your own point of view.
Being optimistic gives you benefits. First and foremost, relationships can be built by being optimistic. It is much harder to spend the day with someone who is always negative. People tend to talk to those who are able to share their happiness. No one likes to have someone to remind them of their unpleasant memories and remind them of their stress.
Furthermore, being optimistic benefits yourself. Optimism makes us just feel good, much better than being down in the dumps. If we are pessimistic, things start to look grey and cause us to become even more pessimistic; like drugs: the more you do, the more you suffer from them.
It is not the end of the world, the sky is blue but not you. Life is colourful and enjoyable, pessimism gives us nothing at all but suffering from sadness. Meanwhile the optimist has already made lots of friends and is enjoying their life. It might not be the best day, but for sure, you will overcome it.
