The McConnells; Exit Interview – Will S
Dr and Mrs McConnell are a cornerstone of RHS. Mrs McConnell was housemistress of Blake for 4 years, a geography teacher, led the sports leaders programme and coached hockey. Mr McConnell of course has been chaplain, an RS teacher, art teacher and led philanthropy at RHS. Their impact on the school is immense and therefore the bubble thought it right to give them a good send off, and ask them about their time here.
Mrs McConnell, could you tell us about your most memorable year at RHS?
Mrs McConnell: All of my years at RHS have been good and I’ve really enjoyed my time here.
Dr McConnell, could you share with us your most enjoyable year at RHS so far?
Dr McConnell: I try to live in the moment and enjoy each year as it comes, but this year has been particularly special.
Mrs McConnell, could you describe your most delightful lunch experience at RHS?
Mrs McConnell: I would have to say the seabass and beetroot was my favorite.
Dr McConnell, could you tell us about the best lunch you have had at RHS?
Dr McConnell: I think the lime infused salmon was my favorite.
Mrs McConnell, have you witnessed any particularly embarrassing moments involving RHS pupils? If so, could you tell us about it?
Mrs McConnell: I have seen a few embarrassing moments, but the one that stands out the most is a pupil falling over on the hockey pitch (sadly, Mrs McConnell felt it would not be fair to name and shame).
Dr McConnell, in your opinion, what is the best thing about RHS?
Dr McConnell: I would have to say the people. Both the pupils and the staff are wonderful, and the view from the school is stunning. The Year 13 leavers day is also a special event that I always enjoy.
Dr McConnell, what is your favorite hymn that is sung at RHS?
Dr McConnell: My favorite hymn is “The day thou gavest.”
Mrs McConnell, which book of the old testament is your favorite?
Mrs McConnell: My favorite book of the old testament is Exodus.
Mrs McConnell, could you tell us about your plans for the future after leaving RHS?
Mrs McConnell: We plan on moving to Ireland. I am retiring, but Dr McConnell has been offered an ice cream van from a former teacher at RHS.
Mrs McConnell, what are you most looking forward to after leaving RHS?
Mrs McConnell: I am looking forward to having Saturdays back and being able to sleep in. I’m also looking forward to the increased flexibility and a less intense schedule.
Dr McConnell, what are you most looking forward to after leaving RHS?
Dr McConnell: I am looking forward to spending more time with my family and seeing my granddaughter more often. I am also looking forward to taking cruises during the much cheaper off-season.
Dr and Mrs McConnell have been at RHS for 12 years and Dr McConnell described it as the “privilege of our lives” to be part of the RHS community. We wish them the best in whatever they do next, especially Dr McConnell’s potential ice cream venture.
