This Year’s Charity Committee! – Ayoola O

This year marks the start of lots of different clubs and the opportunity to join different committees such School Council, food council, eco committee as well as Charity committee.  Committees such as Charity committee, to me, are not just important because of the values that they instill in you such as kindness and community building but more importantly because of the impact that you can have on the lives of others. Each voice, and each person willing to move towards creating positive change in the world can make a huge impact on so many people’s lives and bring not only our local community together but unite our entire global community. Being changemakers starts with each individual act that we choose to do which is why the Charity committee is so important, because it unites all of the voices in the school community together to work towards individual and collective initiatives that can help people’s present situations and create hope for the future.

I served in Charity committee for three years as a representative of Hood, and it has been incredible to hear and learn from Charity speakers about the works that they are doing in the local community. It has also been amazing to hear from this years’ current Charity committee leaders: Teniola L, Tami D and Daniella O.  Talking to them, they have said that their focus is about putting their passion into all of their work. They crucially want to make sure that  Charity committee this year is focused on representing every single member of the school community so that they can create real and powerful change. They want to engage and exemplify the school’s idea of kindness not just within the confines of the school grounds but everywhere. This is such an important message. Their particular aim of actively engaging the school community is really exciting. This is because Charity committee isn’t just about the committee but it is about YOU and the actions that you take to supporting the initiatives that they are trying to turn into real change, and how you continue to inform yourselves about what is happening around you and how you feel that you can best help to support that.

One way that the Charity have already come up with is on the theme of Christmas. The theme of this should fit the theme of ‘What does Christmas at RHS mean to you.’ The deadline is coming up really soon on the 5th of December! The winning design will be printed and will be available to buy at the Christmas. If this sounds like something you would be interested, there is still time to get involved. The Philanthropy Committee will also have a stall at the Christmas Fayre this Saturday. There, you can purchase RHS Christmas cards and order Candy Canes for other pupils which will be distributed to the pupils’ boarding houses at the Christmas Parties.
