Haunted RHS – The Grey Lady
After getting some inspiration from the gothic genre in A – level English lit I decided to shine some light on the dark past of our school . I’m sure those of you new to the school will be unaware of the numerous ghost stories surronding the vast campus of RHS .
I would like to share with you all the first horrifying story I encountered whilst being here which is the widely known story of the ‘Grey Lady’ . Lets set the scene, it was my first induction weekend at school, freshly out of the summer holidays anxiously awaiting my first day of big school. We were squading up for mess when one of the Year 13 prefects broke the news of the ghost that occupied the clock tower known as the ‘Grey Lady’. Needless to say the story left me more scared to walk around school alone rather than starting my first day of school.
The story is a rather tragic tale and goes like this. Years ago there were two lovers who lived at the school who were painting the clocktower. The lady was painting the top of the clock tower blue where she was only being secured by a rope. Half way through painting, she fell out with the man resulting in him cutting the only thing preventing her from , the rope. Heartbroken and betrayed she falls to her death leaving a trail of blue paint down the side of the tower, which you can still see today. Her spirit is forever embedded in the building as she continues to roam the school looking for vengence on young inncoent students (especially year 7’s). You may even see her silhoutte one night walking back from mess looming over the school seeking out victims to feel the same pain she felt when she went through the ultimate betrayal.
Now some of you inquistive people may be speculating the validity of this story. Was this made up as an attempt to get rebelling students from entering the clocktower uninvited? I think not, there have been far too many ghost encounters reported to me from very relaible resources like seeing her at the top of the tower or in the mirror of the clocktower toilets . Although I myself have never spotted the lady in question I have had a fair share of paranormal experiences during my 5 and a bit years here . For example, doors violently shutting, lights competely turning off(science corridors), the sound off footsteps following me when walking around school alone and the ever eerie feeling of being watched as I walk back house in the dark.
So next time when you take a lone walk around the school block or along the terrance be cautious of the vengeful spirit which will be out to get you especially when coming up to these winter months where it gets darker a lot earlier.
