Perseverance – Ayoola Oshiyemi

So firstly, what is perseverance? Well, perseverance is the tenacity and persistence to proceed or continue to endure through failure, difficulty and the barriers which life may throw at us. But most importantly it is one of the keys to the doorway of success and a prosperous life. We as young individuals need to learn not to give up, and to have faith in ourselves. If we fear non-fulfilment, then how will we ever reach success? If we are afraid to jump the biggest hurdles how will we ever grow, proceed and develop as young individuals. Like the writer Suzy Kassem, said, “Fear kills more dreams than failure ever will.” Many successful people set high goals for themselves, not because they are easy or simple but because they believe with hard work, determination, dedication, persistence and perseverance they will one day be achieved. No matter how many times they stumble or fall they will courageously pick themselves up again, retrace their steps and keep on trying untill they achieve that rewarding goal and feel fulfilled. Don’t let the fear of failure consume or overcloud your perceptions of success. The highest achievers are the people who learn from their mistakes or failures and use them not to weep or cry but to make them stronger.

The greatest and most noteworthy victories are not done simply, but take time, perseverance, and stimulation. If you have a genuine goal, wouldn’t you do everything in your power to achieve it? You can do ANYTHING you set your mind to. Like Walt Disney said, “All our dreams can come true- if we have the courage to pursue them.” Even when days may seem tough, the small glimpses of positivity will be there to reassure you. Sometimes when you may feel down it helps to recollect your past achievements to remind you of how AMAZING each and every one of you are. Like Aristotle said, “It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light.”

Failure May have have the power to overwhelm you, but you have the power to prevent it. If you really want success, you will not allow failure to halt your chances of victory. You have the ability to transform that negativity and pessimistic vivacity into positivity. You could either think to yourself, ‘I couldn’t do it. I give up’ or you could say, “I will NEVER give up. I want to achieve this. I can see it so I CAN achieve it and nothing will hold me back!” Which option would you pick? I would choose the latter, would you?

If you can do that, you can achieve anything you set your mind to. Failure can either make or break someone. Many people, once coming in contact with their harshest failures will feel disheartened or discouraged, to a point where they feel like they are not worthy of success, but that definitely isn’t the case. Success doesn’t necessarily have to be achieved straight away. A lot of the time the most successful people have continuously tried and tried, and tried again in the hopes of achieving their aspirations. Please, don’t ever feel like you are not good enough, you are stronger, braver and better than you ever thought you were and with perseverance, determination and dedication you WILL achieve that goal.

In life there are many hurdles and obstacles which must be faced and overcome in order to finish the prolonged race to your dream. But no matter how long it takes, each and every single one of us will one day complete it. Come on! Don’t give up now! Time is ticking and like Benjamin Franklin said, “Don’t put off until tomorrow what you can do today.” You have the choice, you are the predictor of your life: You are the painter of your picture, you are the singer of your song and the writer of your story, you have the ability to ensure it is a good picture, song or story. You have the potential to do anything, all you need to do is unlock it with the keys of life: determination, hard work, courage and perseverance. Remember you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. Try to have a sense of direction, direct yourself down a path which will lead to YOUR success, otherwise life will do it for you.

Don’t let failure manipulate or control the way in which you live your life, release it or transform the negative energy into optimism. If you are joyful and optimistic you will attract goodness and positivity into your life and you will realise how incredibly lucky you are. con you to gain the motivation and stimulation which will help you to persevere and dedicate to your goals academically and in every aspect of your life. The most knowledgeable successes don’t come easily but takes hard work, time, perseverance and self-motivation. You and only you can live your life. Your life ends and starts with YOU. YOU are the predictor of your life and YOU have the ability and the power to conduct how it turns out to be. Believe in yourself and like Samuel Johnson said, ‘Great works are performed not by strength but by perseverance.’
