CCF enrichment week – why you should join the CCF

Last year, towards the end of the summer term, we were given the exciting opportunity to spend a week taking part in CCF activities. Led by Mr Newton, the week helped us develop important skills such as teamwork, leadership, communication, and problem-solving. We enjoyed a range of memorable activities, including an aqua park visit, a challenging assault course, and a day trip to Mersea. Not only were these activities great fun, but they also encouraged us to work together, step outside our comfort zones, and build confidence.

On day one, we ventured very very far out to Mersea, where we tackled a series of climbing courses that pushed us well beyond our comfort zones. As we made our way through the challenges, we had to put trust in our friends to support us and guide us safely back down. Although one particular colour Sergeant may not have been offering the most uplifting words of encouragement , we nevertheless managed to overcome our nerves and take on the towering climbing walls.

However, the real challenge was still to come: the infamous “Pole of Doom.”

What is the Pole of Doom, you may ask? Well, it is exactly what it sounds like. Imagine a towering pole that three people must climb together using removable metal bars as both steps and hand-holds. Once at the top, all three climbers have to somehow squeeze onto a tiny platform before taking a leap of faith backwards at the same time. Yes, it was every bit as terrifying as it sounds. While laughing (and perhaps crying a little too), we somehow managed to brave the challenge.

After this, we rotated through a variety of other activities before finishing the day with a refreshing dip in the water. By the end, everyone was tired, salty, and more than ready for a long shower. Nevertheless, this was only day one of the activity week, and there were still many more challenges, laughs, and unforgettable memories to come

The days that followed were just as action-packed and enjoyable, with activities including archery, laser clay shooting, and an entire session at the inflatable aqua park on Alton Water. Whether we were testing our aim, competing against our friends, or bouncing across the obstacle-filled course, there was never a dull moment, and each activity brought plenty of laughter and excitement.

I hope that everyone reading this has become as enthusiastic about CCF as I am. This year promises even more exciting opportunities and unforgettable experiences, so I hope to see many of you on Fridays and Saturdays for parade. Whether you’re looking to challenge yourself, make new friends, or simply try something different, CCF has something to offer everyone!
