Is AI taking over jobs?- Davina O

All over the world, the younger generations, such as Gen Alpha, are worried about the job availabilities in the future. Artificial intelligence is slowly taking over some jobs worldwide. AI can manage repetitive, data-heavy work, non-stop, which some humans can struggle to maintain. Jobs like data entry, basic customer service, researching, producing and distributing digital media are now being handled by AI.

This is a concern, as many roles that acted as stepping-stools for people to get a job and build the experience are now what AI manages best. As a result, it will be much harder to receive a job. Some people are starting to question if we are still going to have education in a few years’ time?

However, not all jobs are what AI does the best. Jobs that are hands-on and construction like cannot be done by AI. Therapists and other jobs, where you must talk to a client, are great for humans. As AI bots can only go so far, mimicking humans. They don’t have a real heart to understand the client and give them real, useful advice, that isn’t just the most popular piece of advice found online from multiple reviews. Although AI is incredibly intelligent and will increasingly improve over the years it still can’t replace the human skills, creativity and sympathy people develop.

After a bit of research, it is known that the generations are progressively getting smarter 3 IQ points than the last. This is called the ‘Flynn Effect’. This means by 2050, the younger generations could have created more useful jobs.
