Femi VS Mrs Clare: the final Showdown

Femi VS Mrs Clare: the final Showdown

The 26th of March marks the penultimate battle between Femi Seyi-Adelaja and Mr Clare. Running is a major passion for both contestants, but there’s only one way to settle who’s better: a race. The two will go head to head all the way to the finish line of X-Co, and the winner will claim the title of reigning champion. Despite both firmly believing themselves to be the best, only one will cross that finish line first on Thursday. The other will have to carry the heavy, dignity crushing title of “second place”.

Femi has been the undefeated champion for 2 consecutive years, despite being younger and less experienced in long distance running. His opponent speculates that these victories were down to pure luck. Femi, a well decorated track runner who specialises in shorter races, but still manages to beat an avid marathon runner proving that natural talent can be very advantageous, especially when the entire competition blossomed from banter in their GCSE maths classroom. Meanwhile, Mr Clare only began running 4 years ago making the two’s running careers at similar stages (though Femi seems to be excelling, metaphorically and literally ).

From meeting with both runners, it can be confirmed that both are equally as confident. Sir can’t wait to “see Femi at the finish line” after his victory, while Femi calmly states that his “running will do the talking”. Self belief thrives in the 2 athletes while each made bold remarks, jokingly putting the other down. For example, Femi remarks that Mr Clare’s running is almost as bad as his football team evidencing their humorous relationship that will be surely missed.

Last X-Co ,and the year before that, Femi triumphed to victory by defeating sir in sprint finishes. They ran side by side for the majority of the race before launching into a final dash. To no surprise our track runner took an uncontested victory. Mr Clare argues to his defence that this was a disadvantage, but surely he was able to prevent the situation entirely by going ahead earlier on? Personally , I don’t think that sir was holding back through the race out of respect … more out of inability.

Furthermore, Mr Clare claims that another reason that he didn’t win was because of his to morals and dedication to sportsmanship. He notes that one year, he waited for Femi to tie his laces. This honourable, chivalrous, respectful action made him more fatigued later on. However, after cross checking this information, it turns out that this story was not truthfully told! Femi confirms that he did stop to do his laces during the race … but only to following Mrs Clares request. He suggests that this was a “carefully dressed plan” to excuse his future loss.

It seems that Mr Clare’s tactics are … creative. But will the tricks up his sleeve be enough to actually secure a win this year ?

I place my bets on Femi this year because as he rightly said“why would he not win”. In the RHS spirit, let’s all support the runners (or your favourite) today at the races.
