Can AI take over music ?
Do you think that you would be able to tell the difference between AI influenced and a humans musical composition ?

Recently a viral song on TikTok, called “ I Run “, has become a large indicator of the power of AI. Many believed that the song was a new release of the popular singer Jorja Smith, due to the resemblance of style, execution and vocals within the song .
Social media erupted with the conspiracy that an “AI clone ‘ of Jorja’s voice was used when producing, which many believed. As so many people agreed, defended the singer and frowned upon the idea that AI was used to “impersonate” a singer , it is clear that the public are fearful of replacing opportunities and attention from real artists. Before the AI speculations, the majority thoroughly enjoyed the song but once discovering this news , became more interested in the source of creation. By human nature, listeners felt deceived , despite this composition method being legal, as mimicking a real artists trademarks feels immoral.
The composer of “ I Run “, Haven, has confirmed that the song does not contain Jorja’s voice, but rather an AI voice platform that transformed a male voice into a female one. Due to the similarities of the presentation and marketing, most believed that it was Jorja. The misleading nature of the song, makes the use of AI seem imitative, with profit and fame orientated purposes. So, the song was removed and recently re uploaded with a non AI female voice part, but the song has not regained its popularity likely because of the overshadowing controversy.
Evidently, people do not disapprove of AI in the musical field but rather would like to be aware of its presence. We can see this , as original , clearly labelled music that uses AI as a tool with consent is widely accepted. These conditions allows transparency, trust and creativity to be expresses from artist to audience.
The Jorja smith case is proof that AI has rapidly advanced, to the extent that it is almost impossible to tell human and computer generated music apart. On the other hand , it also conveys how we are not yet ready to allow AI to run music, as listeners conveyed concerns for real artists when it seemed that artificial intelligence was replicating a famous artists signature style.
