Strange Portals Appear all over the world-Ben D

Across many major towns and cities in the world, portals have started to appear. They connect two cities live via camera and a large LED screen, so that citizens of 2 different places can wave & communicate to each other as they pass by. It may sound like it belongs in a Marvel universe, but they can be found in many places worldwide including Philadelphia in the USA and Ipswich in the United Kingdom.

They are an act by governments to boost tourism and put their towns on the map, but also a way to understand what life is like in other places of the world. Most are said to leave in 5 years time as they are an experiment because something like this has never been tried before.

They were invented and designed by a Lithuanian artist called Benediktas Gylys. The initial concept was shaped by a diversity of people coming together. It has the aim of connecting all people and communities across the world. They came to life on the 8 of May 2025 and have even been used to play a game of chess between 2 portals in different countries.

There is only 1 in the UK that is situated in the town centre of Ipswich and attracts much attention from the public. During the October half-term, I went to visit it: it was cool to see into another city and even Space. However, the portal did not tell me where I was looking at, but I did know it was a different time-zone as the setting was dark. The other people staring at the portal seemed a bit bemused before walking off and carrying on with their shopping. Where and when will the next portal appear?

Have you seen a portal? What did you think?
