F1 2025: Speed, Strategy, Surprise- Nellie N

Finally!! The new season of Formula One has arrived after so much speculation and it’s NOT going to disappoint at all. So let’s have a breakdown (like when I saw Carlos Sainz in a Williams car) of what’s new and how this season will be so unpredictably brilliant. What are the teams? What’s the drama? Most importantly, may this season go down in history or down the pit lane? Let’s dissect F1 2025…

The 2024 season left us with Max Verstappen once again seemingly effortlessly carrying the trophy in a last minute ‘battle’ against Lando Norris. Although this may have been a breeze for him, Mclaren still took the Constructor’s Championship (and rightly so)- resulting in an early exit for Sergio Perez in RedBull which…we all saw coming. Max wasn’t the only person ‘carrying’ that season as we have found out with the news that he is now expecting a baby with his wife Kelly Piquet and the retirement rumours have Verstappen fans scared to say the least- will his reign soon be over? Additionally, will this news be the end of his reign or will his promising strong competitors snatch the trophy from him in 25’? As for his drama outside of the car, I have two words: George Russell. If you aren’t familiar with this feud, it was hilariously played upon by comedian Jack Whitehall at the O2 arena for the official start of this year’s season- which is SO worth the watch if you want a good laugh and to observe the unveiling of the sleek new drives we’ll be admiring on track this year.

So, let’s meet the teams:

Ferrari: Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc- this is the first time in history we have EVER seen Lewis in red!!

McLaren: Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris- definitely future WDCs in my opinion and I cannot wait to see more of this dynamic duo this year.

RedBull: Max Verstappen and Liam Lawson- after much drama with who gets the RedBull seat next to Max, it was given to the aussie Lawson- the right decision?

Mercedes: George Russell and Andrea Kimi Antonelli- Antonelli is just 18 years old and one of the youngest drivers in history, it will be interesting to see how he performs!

Aston Martin: Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll-once again the best rookie Alonso joins us on the grid and I will continue to hope he gets into the top 10 as much as possible!

RB: Yuki Tsunoda and Isack Hadjar- Hadjar is the 19th driver from RedBull’s junior programme to make it into F1 as he takes the vacancy in RedBull’s sister team.

Haas: Oliver Bearman and Esteban Ocon- After impressing for Ferrari at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix in 2024, Bearman has rightfully started his F1 career!!

Alpine: Pierre Gasly and Jack Doohan- the development of rookie Doohan will be overseen by new Team Principal Oliver Oakes as Gasly signed his extension.

Williams: Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz- Sainz had no shortage of projects to opt for, but James Vowles has impressed the Spaniard for his visions of the future- very promising?

Kick Sauber: Nico Hulkenburg and Gabriel Bortoleto – the new Brazilian rookie and the old timer German are set for this year, meaning we see the depart of Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Ghanyu who will both be missed but perhaps will be on for Audi 2026? (probably not but I would like Bottas to come back for Grill The Grid at least once more.)

As for excitement within the media, the new series of Drive to Survive launches NEXT WEEK on March 7th, make sure to stay tuned as we all know how eventful last season was. Furthermore, the Formula One movie releases on June 25th 2025 from the same director as Top Gun Maverick, starring Brad Pitt! Even if you are a diehard F1 fan or don’t even know your Michael Schumacher from your Damon Hill, this exciting film will be engaging for everyone (I hope..).

This season will kick off OFFICIALLY on March 16th 2025 (so soon!!!). It kicks off with the race that, in my opinion, never disappoints. Highlights from the Australian Grand Prix on YouTube are always so packed with chaos and I am so pleased that it is starting the 24 race saga this year. All of the brand new rookies, the extreme competition that we may observe and drama should boost a fantastic season, make sure to follow along!
