A Farewell Interview with Reverend Mumford:
Reverend Mumford has spent over two years at RHS and has had a transformative role as Chaplain, Teacher of PRE and organising Philanthropy Committee. Her positivity, optimism and kindness has made her a source of great comfort to many and her presence will be sorely missed as she moves forward in her new chapter. The Bubble thought it only right to ask her about her time here and on Monday, I had the pleasure of sitting down with her for an informal chat about what she’d miss about RHS. Her answers go as follows:
What will you miss most about RHS?
Rev M: The EPQ Banter!!
As an ex-EPQer myself, this does ring true. Rev Mumford and I both found that whilst EPQ was pretty stressful most of the time, the experience brought its fair share of trauma bonding and banter to keep us going through the tougher times.
What’s been your most unforgettable memory?
Rev M: ‘The baptisms and confirmations last year’ were ‘pretty special’, even though the full immersion baptisms were ‘very chilly!’ (which was putting it lightly!)
If you could leave any advice for anyone if it’s their last year at the school, what advice would you give?
Rev M: Take a moment to sit in Chapel when it’s empty. There is something special about being the only person in such a large space. It makes you feel really small, but also significant at the same time. It is often the case that people don’t think to do it, since we go in so often for the big services, but it’s definitely something to do if you have the time.
What are your most funny/embarrassing memories?
Rev M: Microphones. Being pulled over by Wolsey in front of Nelson house- pretty sure there was an ‘unintentional backflip’ in there (gymnast in the making??). And the Geo trip last year to Walton-on-the-Naze, where two pupils slid down in the mud!
If you could have one last meal from school before you left, what would you have?
A Wagyu burger from the van outside Cornwallis (Drake, take notes!)
I saw the RHS Chapel Wrapped on Instagram which was great by the way, do you have Spotify, what was your Wrapped?
Rev M: ‘My obsession with Instagram is shown in my Spotify Wrapped’ with some of the top artists and songs being:
- Noah Kahan
- Teddy Swims
Top Songs:
- Texas Hold em
- Austin (Boots Stop Workin’)
- Scared to Start (banger!!)
I’m sure I speak for many when I say that Reverend Mumford’s kindness, positivity and motivation will be sorely missed around the school site. Since she joined, her infectious enthusiasm has really moved Chapel life forward at the school and, personally, I have become more involved with Chapel than I had ever been before. Thank you Reverend Mumford and Good Luck in your new role!
