Why you should go to Paris during the Olympic Games – Lou L.
100 Years ago Paris held the Summer Olympics and once again the city is preparing with immense ambition for this year’s games. In 2024 the city wants to meet the new aspirations of the public. There many reasons to plan a stay in the French capital, and and I will prove them to you!
I- Olympic events at the foot of Parisian monuments!
Paris wants games at the heart of the city so that the public has a wonderful experience.
For exemple, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower, the Champ de Mars will be transformed into a beach volley court, the Place de la Concorde into a BMX freestyle trac, while the Invalides and the Grand Palais will host the archery (tire a l’arc) and fencing (escrime) events respectively.
While the horse riding events will take place in a majestic setting, at the castle of Versailles.
II- Inventive, sustainable and generous Olympic Games
Paris plans to make maximum use of existing infrastructure, and equipment that the locals really needs will also be built.
The city of lights is committed to sustainability, by offsetting of carbon emissions and favouring eco-responsible solutions, particularly in the fields of transport, food and energy.
III- Participatory Olympic Games
For the first time in the Olympic history, events will be organised for the general public, who will be able to participate in the ” Marathon pour Tous” (=marathon for all) at night by taking the official Olympic marathon route.
IV- A unique opportunity to discover Paris in a new light!
The atmosphere of the Games is likely to be memorable!
The opening ceremony of the Olympic Games promises to make am impression with an Olympic parade organised on the river Seine, a river route of more than 6 km between the Pont d’Austerlitz and the Trocadéro for athletes and delegations from around the world sailing on board famous riverboats.
Culture will also be at the centre of the festivities, breaking down barriers between disciplines, which will highlight young talents, emerging trends, the mixing of world cultures and counter-currents.
V- Some advices
A- The public transports
Many means of transport exist in Paris like the bus, the metro…
The frequency of trains and buses serving competition venues will increase by 15%.
Ile-De-France mobilities has created a specific transport package, which is easy to use. It will be activated from the first use for a flexible duration and will allow users to travel unlimitedly across the entire Ile-de-France public transport network. This package will be available in digital format. The price of the transports for one day is 16 euros and 70 euros for a week.
To save money, you can use a the bike system (Velib) or bring your own. Paris has many cycle paths.
