Are we losing our democracy under new Covid rules? – Izzy Scragg and Emily Colston

In today’s society we practice freedom of speech and freedom of moment but are we slowly losing it? Our lives have changed massively since March and things will continue to. But are the Covid laws, Boris and his government are imposing making the UK slowly more authoritarian?
An recent example of this is in the Houses of Parliament where the cabinet and Boris are passing laws without a vote first in parliament , this is how the law of six was put in to place again . Could this be potentially dangerous going forward? Should we be putting health in front of freedom?

Currently cases in the North are soaring and more local lockdowns are being imposed. This is leading to the country being divided and forcing local councils to take action without needing permission. Even though their intentions are for the best it could be forfeiting the people’s opinions and actions they want to take instead of a plan no one voted on. For example Manchester currently in tier three lockdown. This has resulted in thousands of small businesses losing up to £12000 causing many more people to go on furlough using government money whist the UK economy decreases . How long can we continue like this until the money runs out?

Whilst we do believe heath is important we think that some actions need to take place in order for the UK economy to thrive and continue to in the future . The actions the government are taking new are impacting future generations and forfeiting solutions that we can create.
