The New Staff: An Official Guide

The New Staff: An Official Guide

Every year brings new students and teachers, this is nothing new to us here at RHS. However, this year there has been a large influx of new staff. This can be confusing, all these unfamiliar faces walking around school – are they spies sent from IHS or are they actually here for the long run?

To learn more about these unfamiliar faces I thought I would email some of them asking some very searching questions. So the following article is your ultimate guide to new staff here at RHS. Some of you may already have been taught by them, but I am here to give you the answers to what you actually want to know…

If you could invite 5 dead people to a dinner party who would you invite?

Sister Rosetta Tharpe – someone who was a great pioneer in guitar music – she would have us all rocking. Clarissa Dickson Wright – a lady who loved food, adventure and celebration. Neil Armstrong – who wouldn’t want to know what it would be like to hold a communion service on the moon? My maternal grandmother – everyone talks about what an incredible women she was, so the chance to meet her would be special. My Great Uncle Edward who was in the Navy – he was the best at party games, cards and interesting conversation.

Mr Roe – new member of the history and politics department

What is your favourite burger?

My favourite burger would have to be cooked medium rare (very important), mayo, lettuce, red onion, tomato, normal fries, hash browns, bacon and a topping of BBQ sauce. The best burger restaurant is in Berlin and is called ‘the bird’ https://thebirdberlin.com I would highly recommend!

What would be your dream superpower?

My dream superpower would be to travel back in time, not to murder Hitler or any other cliché, but to recount my youth now I’ve reached the grand old age of 26. Think the film ‘About time’ rather than Doctor Who.

If you could invite 5 dead people to a dinner party who would you invite?

I’d bring back Alan Turing so that he could see how far gay rights and computers have come, a chance he didn’t get to see whilst he was alive. Then it would have to be Sergei Kirov. I’d like to know who murdered him. Then… Let’s go for my favourite author George Orwell; the conversation between him and Kirov would be a treat. Penultimately it would be Catherine the Great. It would be interesting to ask her if she did order the assassination of her husband or if it was just coincidence. And finally, although he would probably just sit in the corner feeling sorry for himself, it would be fun to invite Vincent Van Gogh. I wonder if showing him how wealthy and famous he was after death would raise a smile on his face or send him into another spiral of depression

So there you have it, the burning questions in your minds about burgers and dead people dinner parties all answered in one article. All these new teachers are here to make the school a better place and add to the knowledge we already have, it is important that we as a school body make them feel welcome. However, more importantly, now you can all relax knowing they are all indeed members of staff and not spies from IHS.
