Hockey and More Hockey – Frankie Stenning
It started on 14th September. The RHS first team played against Framingham College. Sadly it was a huge loss. 13 goals were scored to nil. 13 – unlucky for us! By the end of the first half Fram had run away with a 7 goal lead. The stronger side just out played us. In the second half, RHS came back a little stronger managing to limit the opposition to just 6 goals. The college had a bunch of elite players which we struggled to play against. With Captain Yasmin Gradwick-Light watching injured from the sides we tried our best to hold them back. However, the girls had to keep their heads up for the County Tournament on Tuesday.
Tuesday started with a departure at 8.30. Baggy meals were dished out, the schools favourite meal… and RHS began to warm up upon arrival at Culford. First game: Ipswich High School. Our first win! 1-0 to our girls saw a fairly confident start on our journey to success. Liv Holt was the scorer. RHS next turned to prepare against Fram. Second match was 0-0. A great fight saw some very close opportunities but sadly no conversion against the Fram side. This was a great outcome for RHS, especially after the beating last Saturday. Adrenaline was running high and success seemed to be in our hands. We then headed on to our next game against St Joseph’s College. A hatrick from Alex Jackson saw a great win for the school. For once the RHS curse was staying away. Then came the next tough match: Culford. Sadly we lost a very close match 1-0 to an almost impossible goal from a lucky flick. This was adding insult to injury as Liv Holt had just taken a ball to the neck. However, heads did not drop and we pushed on to win our final game against Woodbridge School.
Overall a brilliant day from the girls. Finally, the hockey balls thudding into the back of the goal were coming from RHS sticks. We finished second place overall. Next stop: Regionals…
